Do you have plans on Aug. 27? Unless your calendar says “Tuscan Moon,” cancel them and change them to say just that! You won’t want to miss the annual Tuscan Moon—a Tribute to Michael Kerns fundraiser for the many local projects and individuals in need of support, through Rotary’s Family Support for Ellicottville.

“Money raised from this event supports the Rotary for Youth and Rotary’s Family Support for Ellicottville,” explained Greg Cappelli of the Ellicottville Rotary. “We started this event 13 years ago, and this is the third year it’s been the Tuscan Moon theme.”

The event is a tribute to Michael Kerns, who owned Balloons Restaurant and Nightclub and quietly helped many local people, charities and organizations, such as the ECS Sports Boosters and the Ellicottville Memorial Library. “He was always there to help,” noted Cappelli.

What exactly does the night include?

Get the party started with the antipasti table, which includes an assortment of cheeses, olives, salamis, breads and deep fried ravioli from Ilio DiPaolo’s. Snack on risotto bites from Villaggio, brick-oven pizza from Monroe Street Brick & Brew, stuffed mushrooms from Katy’s Fly-in, crab-stuffed artichokes from Katy’s Café and Italian spice-rubbed wings from the Gin Mill.

Ready for dinner? Grab some lasagna from Balloons, chicken marsala from the Birdwalk, pork belly from Cadillac Jack’s, scallops, shrimp and mussels from John Harvard’s, veal canneloni from Dina’s or eggplant parmesan  from Ellicottville Brewing Company. Or, you can head to the pasta table and choose from sausage, marinara, Bolognese, pesto and Alfredo sauces over penne, tortellini or ravioli. Enjoy hand carved round of beef from John Harvard’s, seafood lasagna from Myer’s Steakhouse, Tuscan smoked pork from the Silver Fox and veal rollatini from Tom’s Mom’s Cafe.

Oh, but be sure to leave room for dessert because there will be plenty. Indulge in hazelnut gelato, Watson’s Chocolates and Tom Kneeland’s 20-foot table of deliciousness!

Guests are welcome to enjoy as much as they’d like from each of the stations.

Adding to the ambiance, before and during dinner, you’ll be entertained by the music of Michael Nugent.

Need another reason to check it out? National celebrity and Ellicottville native Brian Dunkleman will host the live auction. Get in your laughs as you bid for rare wine, Sabres tickets, Bills tickets, Cutco Knives and many more bargains.

Tuscan Moon will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. at John Harvard’s Cabana Bar and Pool Complex at Holiday Valley. Enjoy a late summer evening with friends old and new, and support a wonderful organization in the process.

Tickets are $65, available at the Ellicottville Chamber, EVL Spirits, The Gin Mill & Katy’s, or you can order by phone (credit cards accepted) by calling Kegs at 699-8758. Tickets will also be available at the door if space permits.
