The Eagles’ regular season has come to a close for football, soccer and volleyball. Varsity football, Varsity girls volleyball and Varsity boys and girls soccer are all in the playoffs, with strong regular season finishes. All teams are in the Section VI Class D bracket.
Here is a complete run down of what took place and what is still to come this year:
Boys JV football ended with a near perfect season at 6-1.
The Varsity Football team ended at 5-2, good enough to get the three-seed for the playoffs. Last Friday, they played sixth-seed Frewsburg in the first round, easily winning 36-14. The Titans’ next game is Oct. 28 against the second-seed Silver Creek/Forestville. The winner of that game plays the winner of the first-seed Maple Groove versus fifth-seed Randolph at New Era Field in Orchard Park on Nov. 4, 2016.
Girls JV volleyball had an excellent year, placing second in two major tournaments.
The Varsity girls ended up 8-8 overall, but 5-7 in league play, still good enough to make the Section VI class D playoffs. The fifth-seed Lady Eagles will play fourth-seed Forestville at Forestville on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. They have had close contests with Forestville, splitting games at the St. Bonaventure Volleybash back on Oct. 8.
Girls JV struggled all season, but managed a win to end up 1-12.
The Varsity girls went 10-5-1, and ended up in first place in league play, earning the number one seed for the playoffs.
Ellicottville played fourth-seed Pine Valley on Oct. 24, winning 1-0 and will advance to the championship Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. in Dunkirk against the winner of second-seed North Collins versus third-seed Franklinville.
In boys soccer, the varsity team ended 2-12-1, but won their first playoff game against second-seed North Collins last Saturday at Pioneer. They play Friday, Oct. 28 at Sweet Home, at 5 p.m. against the number one seed Pioneer.
Good luck to all playoff teams. Make sure to go and cheer on all the seniors that will be playing in their final high school games! Go Eagles!
