Ellicottville’s own Dekdebruns Snow Sports (DSS) is celebrating their 55th year of operation. Currently on the third generation of ownership, the shop is headed by Greg and Linda Dekdebrun.
The Dekdebrun family boasts 70 years in the sporting goods industry; their first shop, which they lovingly refer to as the “Original Dick’s,” opened in 1946. Kylie Dekdebrun, the daughter of Greg and Linda, is the general manager, with Jay Mowrey serving as the hard goods manager and Ciara Peters as the soft goods manager.
“We are very excited about the product lines we now offer,” Peters tells us. Orage and Phenix are two clothing lines DSS used to carry and has now brought back. “DSS now carries Nitro Snowboards and are the sole retailers of Apex Ski Boots.”
Apex Ski Boots are a unique two-part system that consists of an Open Chassis and Walkable Boot. “It is essentially a snowboard boot with a ski chassis that stays right in your binding and the warmest ski boot on the market,” says Mowrey.
“DSS is proud to have been the very first dealer of Apex Ski Boots,” Greg Dekdebrun says.
Julbo Goggles is another one of their popular products, due to their photochromatic lenses that transition with light intensity.
For non-snowsport enthusiasts, Dekdebruns carries Canadian Goose and Parajumper parkas to keep you warm in the winter months.
DSS is also the official Comprehensive Dealer of Elan Skis. Their best seller, the Elan Rip Stick, was awarded by all five major ski magazines this year.
Peters notes, “I have skied the Rip Stick and it’s impressive in its stability for the east coast, very versatile and could easily be taken out west to ski on.” DSS carries both the men’s and women’s Rip Stick.
Above all, DSS is renowned for their excellent customer service. The management team holds weekly training sessions for their staff to keep them up to date on new products, services and promotions.
“Our staff is highly trained and knowledgeable, ready and willing to answer any questions you may have,” says Mowrey.
They also have world-class boot fitters on staff with at least one at the shop every day to custom fit your equipment or create the perfect foot bed for your boots.
“My favorite thing about working at DSS is the people— customers and co-workers. It is a great family environment,” says Peters.
Mowrey’s favorite thing about being a part of DSS is “Greg.”
This year, DSS is offering seasonal equipment leases starting at $99.
DSS stayed open this summer for the first time in a decade, due to the increased summer month visitors and intend to continue this trend next summer.
