Lady Eagles Stay Undefeated

Last Saturday, Dec. 10, the Varsity girls’ basketball team took on Frewsburg for their closest contest to date and remained undefeated for the season at 4-0. Emmalea Erlandson led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Marrissa Hamilton contributed a triple double in the 46-42 victory. Hamilton, who averages 19.75 points per game, was held to only 10 points against Frewsburg, but added 10 rebounds and an incredible 12 assists. Erlandson is averaging 12.5 ppg.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles continued their winning ways and walked all over Hinsdale for a 54-24 victory lifting their record to 5-0. Their next home game is Dec. 19 against Randolph High School, game time 7:30 p.m.

In boys’ varsity action it was the 4-1 Eagles over Gowanda last Tuesday night winning by a score of 61-53. Elliot Bowen lead the way with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Bowen is averaging 20.4 ppg and 14.4 rebounds. Two other teammates are also in double figures with Austin Grinols averaging 13 ppg and Griffin Chudy with 11.6 ppg. Last Monday night, the Eagles experienced their first loss of the season in a close contest with Chautauqua High School, losing by a single basket, 57-59. The Varsity boys play next at home on Dec. 21 against a struggling Portville High School team that is 1-4, game time is 7:30 p.m.

In Division I college basketball, the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure University men’s basketball team dropped a nail biter at home during the week to UNC of Wilmington, 80-81. The loss drops the men to 6-4 for the season. Their next home contest will be Dec. 19 against Army West Point and then again on Dec. 22 against Canisius College. Both tip off times at the Reilly Center are at 7 p.m.

The women’s team has had three straight losses, dropping their record to 4-6. Local standout guard Mckenna Maycock is averaging 4.6 ppg and a very respectable 4.7 rebounds per game. The women play at home on Dec. 18 against University of Albany; game time is 1 p.m.

Local star from Pioneer High School. Shannon Rogers. is still rebounding in double figures for her Division III Hilbert Hawks squad that defeated D’Youville College last Monday night by a score of 69-56. Rogers had 13 rebounds and five points in the win and lifts the Hawks to 4-6 for the season, 2-2 in AMCC league play.
