HoliMont hosted a U16 Pre-Season Open Giant Slalom on New Year’s Eve. Seven Holiday Valley women finished in the top 10, taking one through five consecutively. Paige Duffy won the race with teammates following close on her heels. Logan Fredrickson took silver, and Katherine Wojnowski rounded out the podium with the bronze. There was only one-hundredth of a second separating these two women; less time than a blink of the eye.

Lauren Thomas finished in 4th, Sierra Cappelli took 5th and the Holiday Valley (HV) sweep was broken by HoliMont’s (HO) Rachel Green in 6th and Zoe Knauss 7th. Hayly Fredrickson (HV) finished 9th, Taylor Hubert (HV) 10th, Chloe Richards (HO) 11th and Katrina Surdyka (HV) 12th. Marian Searby (HO) took 18th,  followed by another streak of Holiday Valley women, Phoebe Dunnin  19th, Alaina Lah 20th, Madeleine Cherr 21st, Claire Taylor 22nd and Haley Barden 25th.

On the men’s side, HoliMont took two-thirds of the podium with David Flaherty in 1st and Carlo Muscarella with the silver. Nathan Briselden (HV) finished 4th, Jacob Flaherty (HO) 5th, Max Carbaugh (HV) 6th, Christian Taylor (HV) 8th and Maxxon Solly (HO) 9th. Dalton Potter of Holiday Valley finished 13th, with teammate Alec Nolan in 14th. Lucas Johnson (HO) took 15th, Orry Shattenberg (HV) 18th and Nicholas Scott (HO) 23rd. Sean Nolan (HV) finished 27th, William Peters (HO) took 34th, Connor Galton (HV) 35th, Samuel Balanevsky (HO) 37th and William Assad (HO) 39th. It was a very successful second outing for some and the first race of the season for many!

That night a few Holiday Valley athletes traveled up to Lake Placid for Whiteface’s New Year’s Day Open Giant Slalom. Nathan Briselden finished in an impressive 11th place and first year U16 Alec Nolan took 17th competing against men up to six years his senior! A big thanks to the coaches and parents who took the long drive to get the athletes to this race!

Next weekend, Holiday Valley and HoliMont host the first Empire Cup West Series of the season, which counts towards post-season results. Check in next week to see how our home hill athletes do!
