Get ready for this weekend’s Phoenix Rise to the Challenge Race at HoliMont!
For many, the highlight of the adaptive ski season is this race, happening on Saturday, March 4.
Racers come from near and far to attend—and what started out as a club race now pulls in racers from not only HoliMont, but also from other local ski resorts, as well as neighboring states and Canada.
Outside of the Special Olympics, there aren’t a lot of adaptive ski races in the area or in the country. That’s why this race draws so many people.
“Last year, we had over 40 competitors. We anticipate the same amount this year,” said David Berghash, Phoenix Program director.
Racers compete in one of three categories: novice, semi-novice and expert (the beginner category of years past has been eliminated). During their personal-best race, competitors take a run, establish a time and then strive to improve upon that time during the second run.
Spectators welcome—come cheer on the hard-working competitors!
