Before you know it, spring and summer will be here, which means race season in Ellicottville. If you like a little healthy competition, sign up now for one of two awesome races coming to Holiday Valley in May and June.
The Happy Half, 5K and Beer Mile returns to Ellicottville on May 13. With different events to choose from, fun distractions on course, entertainment, great food and beer and a course that begins and ends at Holiday Valley, how can you go wrong?
Not sure what a Beer Mile is? While it sounds simple— drink four beers, one every 1/4 mile— it can be a real challenge full of laughs. Invite your friends, and challenge them to a race unlike any other in Western New York!
Best half marathon rates are available through March 14 ($75); after that, pricing is as follows: $80 between March 15 to April 17, $85 April 18 to May 11 (custom finisher shirt not guaranteed if registered after April 29), $100 between May 12 to May 13 (Race Morning) – if available. For the 5K, register by April 8 for $30. Prices are as follows after April 8: $40 April 9 to May 11 (custom finisher medal and shirt not guaranteed if registered after April 29), $50 May 12 to May 13 (Race Morning) if available. Register for these races and the Beer Mile at www.happyhalfrun.com.
The Holiday Valley Mudslide once again makes its way to HV on Saturday, June 17. The sixth annual Mudslide is a mud run that’s so much fun, it’s hard to believe you’re actually getting a workout. Make your way through 11 messy obstacles that span much of the resort. Choose from two course distances—3.5 mile or 5.4 mile. Ride the chairlift to the race start by Spruce Lake. The course heads though the woods along the ridegline, with the 5.4 mile course adding some uphill along the way.
Cost is $60 through June 16, but don’t wait to sign up— there is a max of 1,200 competitors, who will all receive a goody bag and a super cool finisher’s medal, plus a hot dog and two beers (or beverages) afterwards. Children as young as 7 years old can run on the 3.5 mile course, but they must be accompanied by an adult. There is also a kids’ race for kids ages 3 to 12; register for $5 race day.
To get even more in the spirit, sport a costume for a chance to win great prizes.
