Celebrate Earth Day/Arbor Day at ASP April 15

What better place to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day than at Allegany State Park?

This year, ASP is combining these two nature-focused days into one celebration! This family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Red House Administration building.

The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. with a one- hour guided Treasure/Tree I.D. hike on Red Jacket Trail with Environmental Educator Adele Wellman. Come learn about the trees of ASP and maybe even gather a little treasure along the way!

Attendees are asked to meet at the Red House Administration Building at 10 a.m. and to come dressed for the weather.

This hike will last approximately an hour. Registration is not required. For more information, visit the Allegany State Park Facebook page or contact the Environmental Education/Recreation Department at (716) 354-9101 ext. 236.

In addition, kids’ activities run from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature Sun Painting –weather permitting. This activity will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Bring a t-shirt to paint, or pick up a paintable bandana for a $1 donation. Sun painted items will be ready to take home around 12:30 p.m. Kids can also paint tree cookies and more!

Rounding out the day will be a guest speaker from 12 to 1 p.m., topic to be determined.

Ongoing during this event, participants can test their skills at Nature Trivia and check out various displays such as composting, and recycling. Event attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy in the park.
