Just because the ski and snowboard season has come to a close doesn’t mean that HV is asleep until next winter. Besides golfing, there are a number of awesome events to keep you busy this spring and summer!
On May 5, Sky High Adventure Park opens for the season. The Aerial Park and Climbing Forest will be open weekends only through June 16, and then open daily. The Mountain Coaster opens on weekends starting May 19, and will be open daily starting June 16.
The largest in New York State and 3rd largest in the US, Sky High Aerial Park is a series of platforms and “bridges” built in a 4 acre section of the woods and the challenge is to get across to the next platform. There are 13 courses with varying levels of difficulty.
On May 13, HV hosts the Happy Half, 5K and Beer Mile, three superfun races that begin and end at the resort. For more info, visit www.happyhalfrun.com.
If you like races, don’t miss the Mudslide on June 17. This fun and obstacle-filled, very muddy, very messy race begins by Spruce Lake and takes competitors along the ridgeline and back down the mountain, ending with the famous mudslide down the bottom of the Yodeler slope.
Other summer races include the Six Hours of Power Mountain Bike Race on July 16 and the EVL-4 and EVL-9 Trail Runs on July 23.
On June 17, the HV pool complex opens. Choose from a kiddie pool, a lap pool or an activity pool, complete with waterslide and diving board. Enjoy a variety of deck games like giant Jenga and cornhole, and spend an afternoon relaxing or splashing around.
The Summer Music Festival returns to HV and the Village June 30 to July 2. It’s the big event of the summer with street vendors, an arts and crafts show, live music, entertainment, the Pet Parade, strawberry shortcake in the Village Square and fun in the sun. The weekend’s live music features the Buffalo Philharmonic on July 1. The first half of the show will include US and Canadian national anthems, music from the Big Band era, music from Grease and Age of Aquarius and the Armed Forces Salute. Second half features music of princesses and pirates including Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Carribean and Sleeping Beauty and ends with Sousa Marches that accompany the grand fireworks show.
Catch Grand Funk Railroad on Sunday, July 2. Classic Rock, Carl Dixon and the Last Buffalo will open. Visit the Ellicottville Chamber to purchase tickets. Admission for children 12 and under is free.
For a change of pace, mountain bike rentals are available at the Inn at Holiday Valley, $15 for 3 hours or $25 for 6 hours. Take a ride on the flow trail, Senear Valley Trail, which runs from Spruce Lake across through the woods to Champagne, then zigs and zags across the front ski slopes with big banked turns in the woods, and finishes near the Training Center.
Whether it’s a day of golf overlooking the Enchanted Mountains, an adrenaline rush soaring through the treetops, an afternoon of fun in the sun poolside or a fast-paced race, there’s no better place to spend your spring and summer than at Holiday Valley enjoying everything they have to offer. Check out www.holidayvalley.com to stay in the know on all of their upcoming events.
