Want to learn how to Geocache, backpack, kayak, paddle board, fly fish or mountain bike? Allegany State Park is offering informative, hands- on FREE clinics that started in May. Head to the park the first Wednesday of every month as various outdoor enthusiasts share their knowledge and passion of their favorite activity. Series will be held at the new Quaker Bath House or the Summit Warming Hut, depending on the activity. With miles of trails, serene lakes, and natural beauty everywhere it is hard not to find an activity to enjoy. The Outdoor Adventure Series is a great way to learn about fun activities to do in Allegany State Park- Western New York’s Playground.
Wednesday, June 7, 2017 – 6:30 to 8 p.m. – Quaker Bathhouse Kayaking – Sportsman Outlet from Bradford, PA will discuss the different kinds of kayaks available, safety equipment and then have an opportunity to try some of their demo kayaks.
Wednesday, July 5, 2017 – 6 to 8 p.m. – Quaker Bathhouse Fly-fishing and Paddle Boarding – Adventure Bound Onthefly from Ellicottville, NY will talk about fly fishing from 6-7pm and then talk about paddle boarding from 7-8pm. Demo equipment will be provided.
Wednesday, July 19, 2017 – 6:30 to 8 p.m. – Quaker Bathhouse Kayaking – Sportsman Outlet from Bradford, PA will discuss the different kinds of kayaks available, safety equipment and then have an opportunity to try some of their demo kayaks.
Wednesday, August 2, 2017 – 6:30 to 8 p.m. – Summit Warming Hut Mountain Biking – Just Riding Along from Bradford, PA will discuss some of the best things to get for your mountain bike. Make sure you bring your bike because they will then do a short ride on the Art Roscoe Mountain Bike Trail.
Wednesday, September 6, 2017- 6 to 7:30 p.m. – Summit Warming Hut Backcountry Camping – Park Staff will have an in-depth talk on things you need to bring on a backcountry camping trip, how to make your backpack light and what should be in the kid’s backpacks.
Wednesday, October 4, 2017 – 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. – Summit Warming Hut Nature Photography –Park Staff will discuss nature photography, different types of camera’s and basic photography tricks. Bring your camera because the group will be going on a short photo adventure and then have time to discuss pictures taken.
Wednesday, November 1, 2017 – 5 to 7 p.m. – Summit Warming Hut Night Hiking – Park staff will have a night hike on the Bear Paw trial.
Wednesday, December 6, 2017 – 5 to 6:30 p.m. – Summit Warming Hut Prepare for Cross Country Skiing – Allegany Nordic will be talking about clothing used, equipment used and what you should do to prepare for the cross country skiing season.
