Embrace your competitive side this summer by participating in an upcoming golf tournament in Cattaraugus County! In addition to a fun afternoon on the course, participation in some of these tournaments also benefits a great cause, including scholarships for local graduates, the Ellicottville Memorial Library, and a local child’s dream of riding a bike.

On Wednesday, July 12, Holiday Valley is hosting the Eddie Szpaicher Golf Tournament, which provides scholarships to two graduating ECS seniors every year. The tournament begins on Tuesday, July 11 with evening registration and a kick-off party at 6 p.m. at the Cabana Bar. Participants’ $125 registration includes the Tuesday evening festivities, and on Wednesday, golf, a cart and dinner at Holiday Valley. For those who would like to support the tournament but don’t plan to play, participation in the Tuesday cocktail party is $25 and dinner on Wednesday is $25.

The tournament begins on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start and includes lunch at the turn and beer stations on the course. The tournament is followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Cabana Bar at 6 p.m., then dinner and awards at 7 p.m. Register now by sending your check to Ed Szpaicher Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1502, Ellicottville, NY 14731.

The 4th Annual Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Corporate Golf Classic will be held on Monday, July 17 at the Bartlett Country Club in Olean. This classic will be a scramble limited to 30 teams that include corporate teams and community teams vying for prizes from the pro shop and a traveling trophy to show off throughout the year!

Registration begins at noon on the day of the tournament, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Participants can enjoy a steak bake and cash bar at 6 p.m., when awards will be given. Committee member Ledgie DeRose stated, “The Classic features corporate teams and community teams.  Corporate teams consist of employees within the same physical company with current active employees who are full-time year-round.  A community team is a team of friends, family, non-employment associates captained by a GOACC member.”

Even if you aren’t able to participate in the tournament, you or your business can still take part in the event. Tickets for the Bartlett Country Club’s delicious steak bake will be available for $30. Businesses can sponsor a hole for $100 and/or provide small items (pens, koozies, etc.) for the goody bags that all the players will receive. The fee for each tournament participant is $100 per player/$400 per team and includes the greens fee, a golf cart, and the steak bake. For more information, contact the GOACC at (716)372-4433 or email info@oleanny.com.

Save the date for Monday, Aug. 7 for the 15th Annual Ellicottville Library Pro Am Golf Tournament, hosted by Holiday Valley. This tournament includes 30 WNY PGA Professionals and 90 amateurs, and proceeds support the library, which relies on area donations to support the demand for new books, computers, and programming. The tournament includes 18 holes, lunch, dinner and awards, and additional players are always welcome. To learn more, contact Holiday Valley’s head professional, Steven Carney, at (716)699-3909.

The 2nd Annual Taige Kinney Glowball Tournament is taking place on Friday, Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. at Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Randolph. The tournament benefits Taige Kinney of Randolph, a 10-year-old child who suffered a traumatic brain injury and has a number of other medical disabilities including cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and cortical blindness. Although Taige is wheelchair-bound, it is her dream to join her family on their bike rides. Her friends and family are raising funds to purchase a VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike, which will allow her to do just that.

Have fun golfing into the night in this 9-hole, 4-person scramble! Participation is $35 for Cardinal Hills members and $45 for non-members. The fee includes the cart, greens fee, glow ball, and late night snacks and drinks. Last year’s tournament filled up quickly! Sign up now at Cardinal Hills Golf Course or contact Brandy Ormond at (716)969-0411.
