East Otto Town Board

The August meeting of the East Otto Town Board was called to order at 6:03 PM by Supervisor Ann Rugg on Tuesday August 8, 2017.

Highway: Tom stated that the cold mix on Hammond Hill is done. The top still needs to be surfaced. He told the board that the hot water tank at the Highway building is no longer any good. He priced gas and electric ones and also different size ones and told the board the differences. Discussion took place and the decision was made for Tom to purchase a gas hot water tank. He told the board there will be a child attending school this year that lives on top of Rohr Hill off from Mill Valley and there is no turn around for the bus there. It is in West Valley school district. Ann told Tom to contact the Bus Supervisor and let him know.

Town clerk: Presented the board with information on a presentation she went to regarding the town accepting credit card payments. The residents of East Otto would be able to pay such things as their taxes, dog licenses, and hunting licenses with credit cards.

A motion was made by Mike Poch and seconded by Bill Spors to approve the town clerk/tax collector to accept credit card payments.. Forster, Spors, Poch and Rugg were in favor. Motion carried.

Bill Spors told the board of speaking to Spectrum regarding broadband. Deanna had also spoken with a representative from Southern Tier West regarding the funding from NYS for broadband. Round 3 of the bidding will be closing in the middle of August. Sections of East Otto were open for Round 2 of bidding which was completed in 2016. Those areas were accepted by Armstrong Company for fiber optic.

Ann told the board the NYS town supervisors have come up with a plan for shared services to be voted on September 7, 2017. The state feels the projected savings will be almost 2 million dollars for all the projects combined. In order for it to pass there will need to be a majority vote of the 23 supervisors. Ann sent in an application to Mega gas/electric to see if they could give the town a better price.

CEO Report: Jeff completed 8 inspections, issued 2 violation notices, and answered 17 phone calls. Jeff attended court for 2 violations.

Public Comment: Mark Westfall had questions regarding health insurance.

A motion was made by Bill Spors and seconded by Mike Poch to adjourn at 7:18 PM. Forster, Spors, Poch and Rugg were in favor. Motion carried.

The next meeting will be September 12, 2017 at 6:00pm.
