The Public House of EVL: Completing the WNY Circle

Yet again, this picturesque Village of Ellicottville is gaining a new business; The Public House of Ellicottville. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because you have probably heard of them before. The Ellicottville location marks the third  restaurant for Frank and Sara Testa.

“We have always wanted to own a restaurant in Ellicottville,” Sara explains. “We know how difficult it can be to come by commercial real estate here let alone restaurant space.”

In 2014, the Testas took their first crack with The Public House on Hertel, which instantly became a success in the recently rejuvenated area of Buffalo. Next, in 2015 they opened The Public House on the Lake, located on Route 5 in Hamburg.

Recently, they were looking for a second home in the Ellicottville area and, as they started their search, they saw there was space for sale. Then they knew it was time to make their initial dream a reality. So on Nov. 24  the doors opened on The Public House of Ellicottville.

“We started looking for a place in August, when we found the former Cadillac Jack’s and Hoagie’s location available, it was a no brainer,” Sara said. “The location has this draw to it that is so special, so many great memories and we hope to continue that tradition for a long time.”

All their products are made in house from the burgers to the crab cake, even the chicken fingers. “Pizza will be coming soon too!” she said. There will be weekly features that will typically include a steak, pasta and seafood options. Their prices are competitive and fit with their “craft casual dining” essence. The focal point of the bar is the 6 1/2-foot cast iron draft system. It is edgy yet elegant and complements the industrial shelving and barnboard wall.

The Public House marks the first Buffalo restaurant group to come to Ellicottville since the resurgence of Buffalo. The Public House has brand power throughout Western New York that is thrilling to see come full circle and join this great village.

They have 22 taps with an array of craft brews, along with 50 different selections of cans and bottles, which means even the pickiest of drinkers will find something to sip as they put away some of their famous beer clams or classic poutine. They also have an extensive bourbon, scotch and whiskey selection which personally I cannot wait to peruse.

Two weeks from now, they will start their Brunch Menu— which, hold the press — includes crab. Cake. Eggs. Benedict. Cue rumbling stomach.

Their Christmas/Grand Opening Party will be held on Dec. 9, starting as soon as you get there. There will be live music from the Nay Jays 8  – 11 p.m. with passed hor d’oeuvres and drink specials. “We have been welcomed in to the community by so many business owners and locals and have been making our way around town to support them in return. It is such a supportive community and we are so happy to be apart of it now,” Sara noted.

This is another testament to this great area and its evolution into a four-season community. Does anyone get what I did there? “Testa”ment the Testas.. OK, bad joke, but anyway, The Public House of Ellicottville can be found at 24 Monroe Street and they are open seven days a week: Monday – Thursday 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday 11:30 a.m. – 11 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sara was quick to note that these are kitchen hours and they will always keep the bar open if there are people there.
