If you feel like you’ve been missing out on winter fun because you never got around to learning how to ski or snowboard, join others across the country for National Learn a Snowsport month, happening all month long in January. You’re never too old to learn something new, and this is your chance to get out there with other like-minded individuals and embrace the snow!

Holiday Valley offers a variety of group or private lessons for all abilities whenever the resort is open, and this season, the Snowsports School will be led by co-directors Bob Armour and Allie Doro, who will oversee the 285-member school, which includes instructors and coaches for the Children’s Ski and Snowboard School, the Adult Ski and Snowboard School, the Lounsbury Adaptive Program, as well the Holiday Valley Race Team, Freestyle Team, Snowboard Team and Master’s Program.

Lessons are not just for kids, and it’s not necessary to feel self conscious about starting a snowsport when you’re past your teenage years. Many people learn each year as adults.

“You’re never too old to start and there’s always an opportunity to improve,” Armour said.

As in years past, Holiday Valley will be offering some great deals for adults (those ages 12 and up) in January. All month long, Learn to Ski or Ride packages (which include a rental, beginner lift ticket and lesson) are half off. The Bring a Friend deal will give your friend half off the Learn to Ski or Ride package and you get a voucher for half off your lift ticket on your next visit. Or, if you stay at the Inn at Holiday Valley Sunday-Thursday, you can get a free Learn to Ski or Ride package.

For those hesitant to start, Doro said, “It’s always worth trying, and our instructors will provide an atmosphere where you feel safe to learn. Learning to ski or snowboard can be transformational for a person or a family, and it will change your whole winter!”

At HoliMont, in January only, they are offering their Learn to Ski, Snowboard or Telemark special during the week for $85, which includes an hour and a half beginner lesson with lift ticket, lesson and basic equipment rental. (Bring a friend for same lesson for free.) Weekend (must be signed in as a guest at HoliMont) Learn to Ski, Snowboard or Telemark Private Lesson for $135. Includes hour and a half lesson with basic rental. (Bring a friend for same lesson for free.)

Join in the fun and get a jump start on 2018 by learning something new. There’s no better place to celebrate National Learn a Snowsport Month than in Ellicottville!
