LOCAL SKI RACING: Seven Holiday Valley and HoliMont U14s Move on to Easterns

U14 athletes traveled to Lake Placid, NY to compete in the New York State U14 Championships at Whiteface. The weekend consisted of a Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G. For the majority of the season these athletes competed against the west side of the state. At this event, the field is doubled and they are competing against others they have not yet competed against this season. To move onto Eastern Championships the best three results are taken of seven possible results being two slalom runs, overall slalom, two giant slalom runs, overall giant slalom and one super G run. Reported are overall results.

Boys Slalom: HoliMont’s Cameron Johnson and Logan Kidd walked home with hardware finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Holiday Valley’s Erik Shattenberg took 9th, Ian McKenna (HO) 12th and Buck Rathbun (HO) 14th. Carson Corey of Holiday Valley finished 16th, Liam Ainslie (HO) 23rd, Logan McCulloch (HO) 25th and Owen Griffith (HV) 39th.

Girls Slalom: Charleigh Priestman of HoliMont finished 8th with teammate Madalyn Cummings right behind in 9th. Isabella Stringer (HO) took 15th, Cece Carls (HO) 16th, Brianne Allegra (HV) 23rd, Brooklyn Napolitano (HO) 26th, Alexandra Smillie (HV) 28th and Leah Smillie (HV) 31st. HoliMont’s Heather Dunlap finished 35th, Molly Basadur (HO) 39th, Sophia Gambino (HV) 42nd, Charlotte Branscombe (HO) 43rd and Sarah Kelly (HO) 47th.

Boys Giant Slalom: Holiday Valley’s Erik Shattenberg took 7th. Cameron Johnson (HO) finished 11th, Ian McKenna (HO) 12th and Carson Corey (HV) 13th. Logan McCulloch (HO) placed 22nd, Peter McKenna (HO) 23rd, Buck Rathbun (HO) 29th, Owen Griffith (HV) 42nd and Blake Preston (HO) 43rd.

Girls Giant Slalom: Mary Catherine Mangan of HoliMont took 4th followed by teammate Madalyn Cummings in 5th. Simona Muscarella (HO) was right behind in 6th and Isabella Stringer (HO) finished 8th. Holiday Valley’s Alexandra Smillie took 17th, Charleigh Priestman (HO) 18th, Cece Carls (HO) 21st, Heather Dunlap (HO) 22nd, Leah Smillie (HV) 29th and Gianna Ferrara (HO) 30th. Sophia Gambino (HV) finished 32nd, Sarah Kelly (HO) 38th, Charlotte Branscombe (HO) 43rd, Molly Basadur (HO) 48th and Megan Kelsch (HO) 51st.

Boys Super G: HoliMont’s Logan Kidd once again found himself on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Erik Shattenberg of Holiday Valley finished 7th, Carson Corey (HV) 16th, Ryan Scanlon (HV) 18th, Ian McKenna (HO) 25th, Nicholas Koerber (HV) 26th and Logan McCulloch (HO) 27th and Owen Griffith (HV) 45th.

Girls Super G: Isabella Stringer (HO) finished 5th with teammates Simona Muscarella, Madalyn Cummings and Mary Catherine Mangan took 9th, 10th and 11th respectively. Alexandra Smillie of Holiday Valley finished 12th, Charleigh Priestman (HO) 16th, Cece Carls (HO) 22nd and Leah Smillie (HV) 25th. Brooklyn Napolitano of HoliMont placed 29th, Gianna Ferrara (HO) 30th, Sarah Kelly (HO) 31st, Sophia Gambino (HV) 36th, Megan Williams (HV) 39th and Molly Basadur (HO) 56th.

Moving on to U14 Easterns will be Cameron Johnson, Logan Kidd, Erik Shattenberg, Mary Catherine Mangan, Madalyn Cummings, Simona Muscarella and Isabella Stringer.

Moving onto U14 New York/Vermont Giant Slalom Camp will be Ian McKenna, Corey Carson Charleigh Priestman (who is also first alternate for Eastern Champs), Alexandra Smillie and Cece Carls.

On Feb. 25, U12/10/8 athletes competed at HoliMont in a Giant Slalom. This was the last race of the of the regular season. March 10th and 11th is Kandahar to be held at HoliMont where athletes will compete against another council at this event as well.

U12 Girls: Carissa Dunlap of HoliMont took gold with teammate Olivia Cummings right behind in 2nd. Mia Kerl (HO) finished 4th, Jane Rathbun (HO) 5th, Kaitlyn Turnbull (HO) 7th, Molly DeRose (HV) 8th, Lilah Pecora (HO) 9th and Emmylu Carls (HO) 10th. Reese Latta (HV) took 11th and Ruby Wiley (HO) 12th.

U10/8 Girls: HoliMont’s Georgia Priestman, Isabella Cummings and Payton Weinstein swept the podium finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. All three of these girls also finished in the top ten overall! Eniko Knezic (HO) took 4th, Ruby Burget (HO) 6th, Presley Napolitano (HO) 8th, Georgia Hewson (HO) 9th, Lilah Buitenhuis (HO) 10th, Sophia Belza (HO) 11th and Sadie Bruen (HO) 13th.

U12 Boys: HoliMont’s Dougie Basadur, Maxwell Burget and Hans Solly took 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Harry Scanlon of Holiday Valley took 5th, Henery Black (HV) 7th, Gavin Weinstein (HV) 8th, Holden Bozek (HO) 9th and Alex Gambrell (HO) 10th. Ethan Peters (HO) finished 11th, Jonathan Scarrow (HO) 12th, Austin Lah (HV) 13th, John Black (HV) 14th, Chase Zumkehr (HO) 15th, Cooper Biersbach (HO) 16th, Nathan Belza (HO) 17th and Shay Malone (HO) 18th.

U10/8 Boys: Coleman Carls of HoliMont took gold and finished 5th overall! Hudson Marshall of Holiday Valley finished with the silver medal and 9th overall! Cody Preston (HO) rounded out the podium with the rose gold. Avery Platt (HO) took 4th, Jude Lisowsky (HO) 5th, Michael McCulloch (HO) 6th, Declan Coleman (HV) 8th, Everett Hamel (HO) 9th, Jasper Tullett (HO) 10th and Vincent Scott (HO) 11th. George Wiley (HO) finished 13th, Colin Malone (HO) 14th, Adrian Bohdanowycz (HO) 15th, Jack Rathbun (HO) 16th and Ashton McGeachie (HO) 17th.
