Aurora Light and Bronze recently celebrated its grand opening and is offering the public an alternative route to heal their body and even lose weight.

The business, located at 23 Jefferson St. in Ellicottville (in the former location of Oasis Spa) is co-owned by DeBi Lockhart Bacelli of Great Valley and her daughter, Jessica A. Bacelli of Salamanca. Bacelli said they decided to open this type of business after they came across the health benefits of infrared light and started researching it.

Through their research, they found that infrared light has healing qualities and is good to combat arthritis, fibromyalgia and diabetes. According to Bacelli, the benefits of infrared light also include natural pain relief, wound healing, skin anti-aging and skin health, healing skin infections and improving blood circulation. She said most of the research has been done through NASA, Wisconsin Medical and Boston Medical.

“My daughter and I decided to strike out on our own to do this because we are believers in the healing properties of infrared,” she said. “We thought the tanning bed, tanning booth and spray tanning would help bring people through the door.”

The salon offers an assortment of services including spray tanning with Norvell products used by the “Dancing with the Stars,” a state-of-the-art S-Class tanning bed with a facial unit, Pro Sun 7-minute stand up booths, and an infrared sauna wrap that burns 600-1,200 calories per session.

The special infrared sauna wrap is silver and looks like a sleeping bag. Bacelli said the customer puts on a disposable sauna suit over their clothes, or whatever they wish to wear, and they get inside the sauna wrap. Then it’s set at 65 degrees Celsius, which is 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

“You lay in the heat for about 30 minutes, which feels amazing. It gives you a detox because it makes you sweat,” she said. “The infrared actually relaxes your muscles and your body releases nitric oxide which gives you good blood flow, so it’s great for cardiovascular.”

According to Bacelli, the sauna wrap with healing stones is also good for muscle healing and it stimulates weight loss. It gives immediate relief and continues to deliver that relief.

Bacelli said she is currently in the process of having a Wellness Pod on-site and hopes to have it installed by May. She said it also uses infrared light and described it as a contoured-type bed that opens forward instead of from the side like a tanning bed.

“You lie on it and it actually closes onto you. It massages you and has aroma therapy along with a Himalayan salt tablet,” she said. “The pod relaxes your muscles in the same way as the sauna wrap. It also helps with fine lines and wrinkles as well as spots on your skin and stretch marks. A 30-minute session detoxes you and helps with weight loss.”

At Aurora Light and Bronze, people will find a selection of unique products from Alaska Glacial Mud Company that are all natural, Wild Alaska Chaga Tea and Permafrost Beard company. They also carry local homemade soaps, bath balms and body butters from Salamanca, as well as honey products from Smethport, Pa. that include healing salve and body butter, both made from beeswax.

According to Bacelli, they are the only place in the lower 48 states to carry the Permafrost Beard company products. The products are for men and include beard balm made from beeswax and essential oils.

She said Wild Alaska Tea products come in a variety of Chaga teas. Chaga is a mushroom that is full of antioxidants and grows in North America, but grows best in Alaska.

In addition to working at the business she shares with her daughter, Bacelli said she is currently a casino host at the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino, where she has worked the last 14 years. As a longtime resident of the Onoville and Great Valley areas, she has worked in the Ellicottville area, including the Ellicottville Depot, for many years.

Current business hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the last appointment at 12:30 p.m.
