LOCAL SKI RACING: Four Holiday Valley and HoliMont Athletes Move on to Can-Am’s

On Feb.18, U14/12/10/8 ath U14/12/10 athletes gathered from Western New York and Southern Central New York to compete in the 2018 Kandahar Festival. This year it was held at HoliMont on March 10 and 11. Day One was a Kombi which is a blend of Giant Slalom and Slalom. Day Two was a Giant Slalom.

Day One:

U14 Boys: Matthew King (HO) finished with the bronze medal.

U14 Girls: Claire Rintoul of HoliMont took home the gold medal. Helen Malone (HO) finished 11th and Zoe Folsetter (HO) 13th.

U12 Boys: HoliMont’s Dougie Basadur and Hans Solly found themselves on the podium with the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Harry Scanlon (HV) took 4th, Liam Hamel (HO) 6th, Maxwell Burget (HO) 8th, Gavin Weinstein (HO) 11th, Henry Black (HV) 15th and John Black (HV) 16th. Ethan Peters (HO) took 21st, Austin Lah (HV) 23rd, Jonathan Scarrow (HO) 26th, Christian Lisowsky (HO) 30th, Nathan Belza (HO) 33rd and Shay Malone (HO) 34th.

U12 Girls: HoliMont ladies took six of the top 10 spots. On the podium was Olivia Cummings with the gold and Francesca Ferrara with the bronze. Carissa Dunlap took 4th, Jane Rathburn 5th, Mia Kerl 6th and Kaitlyn Turnbull 8th. Sydney Kuder of Holiday Valley took 9th, Charlotte Harter (HV) 10th, Molly DeRose (HV) 15th, Lilah Pecora (HO) 17th, Reese Latta (HV) 19th and Emmylu Carls (HO) 20th. Grace Privitera of Holiday Valley finished 23rd, Annabelle Malone (HO) 26th and Ruby Wiley (HO) 29th.

U10 Boys: Holiday Valley’s Hudson Marshall finished with the silver medal and 11th overall with teammate JR Palmerton in 4th and 20th overall! Cody Preston (HO) took 5th, Everett Hamel (HO) 8th, Jude Lisowsky (HO) 11th, George Wiley (HO) 12th, Declan Coleman (HV) 13th, Jasper Tullett (HO) 14th and Vincent Scott (HO) 18th.

U10 Girls: HoliMont’s Isabella Cummings walked away with the gold medal and finished in an impressive 6th place. Georgia Priestman also of HoliMont took the silver and 13th overall with teammate Eniko Knezic rounding out the podium and finishing 18th overall. Payton Weinstein (HO) finished 4th and 20th overall. Hannah Goldberg (HV) placed 7th, Presley Napoitano (HO) 10th, Georgia Hewson (HO) 13th, Sophie Belza (HO) 15th, Reese Kuder (HV) 16th and Emmerson King (HO) 17th.

Day Two:

U14 Boys: Gabriel Lisowsky of HoliMont finished 4th, with teammate Matthew King taking 5th.

U14 Girls: Claire Rintoul (HO) was once again on top of the podium finishing 1st. Halle Stephens of Holiday Valley took the rose gold finishing 3rd. Helen Malone (HO) took 11th and Zoe Folsetter (HO) 14th.

U12 Boys: Hans Solly (HO) once again was on the podium with a silver medal. Maxwell Burget (HO) took 4th, Gavin Weinstein (HO) 5th and Liam Hamel (HO) 6th. Harry Scanlon of Holiday Valley finished 8th, Beaudin Napolitano (HO) 12th, John Black (HV) 13th and Henry Black (HV) 14th. Ethan Peters (HO) placed 18th, Austin Lah (HV) 24th, Jonathan Scarrow (HO) 29th, Christian Lisowsky (HO) 30th, Nathan Belza (HO) 32nd and Chase Zumkehr (HO) 33rd.

U12 Girls: HoliMont girls once again dominated with Carissa Dunlap taking the gold, Francesca Ferrara with silver and Olivia Cummings took the bronze. Kaitlyn Turnbull finished 5th and Mia Kerl 6th. Sydney Kuder of Holiday Valley took 8th, Molly DeRose (HV) 10th, Lilah Pecora (HO) 15th, Emmylu Carls (HO) 17th and Reese Latta (HV) 20th. Grace Privitera (HV) finished 21st, Annabelle Malone (HO) 25th and Ruby Wiley (HO) 26th.

U10 Boys: Hudson Marshall again took home the silver medal and finished again 11th overall! Coleman Carls (HO) took the bronze and 16th overall and JR Palmerton (HV) finished 4th and 17th overall. Cody Preston (HO) placed 5th, Declan Coleman (HV) 10th, Everett Hamel (HO) 12th, Avery Platt (HO) 14th, Jude Lisowsky (HO) 15th, George Wiley (HO) 21st and Adrian Bohdanowycz (HO) 22nd.

U10 Girls: Isabella Cummings (HO) earned herself another gold and top ten overall finishing 8th. Georgia Priestman (HO) finished again with the silver, 12th overall and Eniko Knezic again took home bronze and 22nd overall. Hannah Goldberg (HV) finished 5th, Ruby Burget (HO) 7th, Presley Napolitano (HO) 8th, Georgia Hewson (HO) 11th, Lilah Buitenhuis (HO) 12th, Marlena Pecora (HO) 14th, Reese Kuder (HV) 17th and Emmerson King (HO) 18th.

From this race, athletes qualified to Kandahar Champs at Toggenburg Mountain in Fabius, N.Y. This race is normally open to U14/12 athletes, but when there are U10s who had at least two top-15 overall results in either the overall result, run one or run two, they are invited to Champs. The following U10 athletes qualified: Isabella Cummings, Georgia Priestman and Hudson Marshall. The following U14/12 athletes qualified: Matthew King, Gabriel Lisowsky, Claire Rintoul, Halle Stephens, Dougie Basadur, Hans Solly, Maxwell Burget, Harry Scanlon, Liam Hamel, Gavin Weinstein, Beaudin Napolitano, Carissa Dunlap, Olivia Cummings, Francesca Ferrara, Kaitlyn Turnbull, Jane Rathbun, Mia Kerl and Sydney Kuder.

Kandahar Champs were held on March 17 and 18 and consisted of a skills/training day and one day of racing. The first run was a Giant Slalom and the second was Kombi. Overall results are reported.

U14 Boys: Gabriel Lisowsky of HoliMont took home the gold medal! Matthew King (HO) finished 5th.

U14 Girls: Claire Rintoul (HO) finished 7th and Halle Stephens (HV) took 12th.

U12 Boys: Hans Solly (HO) placed 4th, Harry Scanlon (HV) 5th and Gavin Weinstein (HO) 28th.

U12 Girls: Carissa Dunlap (HO) finished 5th with teammates Olivia Cummings and Francesca Ferrara in 6th and 7th respectively. Kaitlyn Turnbull (HO) took 13th, Mia Kerl (HO) 14th and Jane Rathbun (HO) 23rd.

U10 Boys: Hudson Marshall finished in a whopping 9th overall and took home the gold for U10s!

U10 Girls: Isabella Cummings of HoliMont finished in a remarkable 15th place overall and took the gold for U10 girls. Georgia Priestman (HO) took 5th.

Erik Shattenberg (HV), Cameron Johnson (HO), Logan Kidd (HO), Mary Catherine Mangan (HO), Madalyn Cummings (HO), Simona Muscarella (HO) and Isabella Stringer (HO) all travelled back to Whiteface Mountain for U14 Eastern Championships.

Girls Giant Slalom: Simona Muscarella 12th and Madalyn Cummings 41st.

Boys Giant Slalom: Cameron Johnson 27th, Logan Kidd 32nd and Erik Shattenberg 48th.

Girls Super G: Simona Muscarella 28th, Isabella Stringer 39th, Mary Catherine Mangan 42nd and Madalyn Cummings 48th.

Boys Super G: Cameron Johnson 20th, Logan Kidd 40th and Erik Shattenberg 51st.

Girls Slalom: Madalyn Cummings 31st and Mary Catherine Mangan 54th.

Boys Slalom: Cameron Johnson 17th and Logan Kidd 35th.

Moving on to U14 Can-Am’s in Sugarloaf, Maine will be Simona Muscarella and Logan Kidd.

Logan Fredrickson, Hayly Fredrickson and Lauren Thomas of Holiday Valley traveled to Spruce Peak, Vt. for U16 Eastern Championships at Stowe Mountain. This series was comprised of two Slaloms, two Super-G’s and one Giant Slalom.

Slalom No. 1: Lauren Thomas 19th, Logan Fredrickson 25th and Hayly Fredrickson 34th.

Slalom No. 2: Logan Fredrickson 16th and Hayly Fredrickson 40th.

Giant Slalom: Logan Fredrickson 24th and Hayly Fredrickson 50th.

Super-G No. 1: Lauren Thomas 30th, Hayly Fredrickson 53rd and Logan Fredrickson 55th.

Super-G No. 2: Logan Fredrickson 31st and Hayly Fredrickson 58th.

Logan Fredrickson and Hayly Fredrickson will be moving on to U16 Can-Am’s in Mont Tremblant in Quebec.
