Being a woman means many things. It means working hard well beyond the typical work day. It means being a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sister, a friend. It means taking care of others, and let’s be honest, quite often forgetting or not leaving time to take care of yourself. In a world of constantly meeting work deadlines, driving carpools, refereeing kids and helping maintain a somewhat presentable household, treating yourself to a break every now and then is not only well-deserved but also important. Well, your opportunity is almost here. Come June, there are three consecutive weekends of women-centric activities planned and you don’t want to miss out!
Girls Getaway Weekend
The first weekend in June, take part in the second annual Ellicottville Girls Getaway Weekend. “This weekend is about relaxing from the pressures of everyday life, reconnecting with those you may not get to spend enough time with, having the ability to let loose with the ones that know you best, while treating yourself with what you deserve,” said Barb Pump, Communications, Membership & Events Manager for the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce, event organizers.
Head to the village for a welcome reception on Friday night at EllicottVillas for amazing hors-d’oeuvres and wine tastings. An outstanding brunch, cocktail hour and amazing shopping specials are also included in the $150 registration price. Spend Saturday doing a variety of activities like yoga, jewelry making, scarf tying, a bit of mixology, and even some essential oils information. You can pick and choose your extra activities (for an additional charge) when you register.
“I want women to leave this weekend with memories that will be remembered forever, because of the experience as a whole, and want to create new ones year after year,” Pump noted. “I want this to be marked on their calendars as soon as they return home for the following year.”

Women in the Outdoors
On Saturday, June 9, experience the great outdoors with Women in the Outdoors, presented by Springville Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
These events are held across the country using experts and trained professionals to teach outdoor skills to women and girls over 12 years of age in a non-competitive environment.
This will be the 19th year the event has been held, and this year’s courses include some new offerings, such as Canoeing and Camping, Owl Painted Tote Bag and Food Prep and Fire. Other courses include Tomahawk Throwing, Let’s Talk Turkey, Archery, Emergency Prep, Walk in the Woods and Self Defense. Registration is required, and the $65 fee includes all equipment use, course instruction (four classes), continental breakfast, hot buffet lunch, great t-shirt, NWTF membership and a one year magazine subscription.
This is a great opportunity to learn something new with friends and family, and is geared toward females ages 12-100. “Each individual helps the others succeed,” Estelle Greene, one of the event organizers, said of the attendees.
The event will be held at the Erie County Conservation Society, located at 13319 Miller Avenue in Chaffee.
