The Alfred University men’s basketball team had its second Empire 8 Rookie of the Week this season as Elliot Bowen, a Salamanca native and Ellicottville High School graduate, was the conference’s selection on Monday afternoon.
The Saxons already had Brewster Marshall (Horseheads) as an Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after a big game against Rochester Institute of Technology in November. Bowen also earned his Rookie of the Week selection based on a one-game week and the two are the only rookies to receive recognition from the conference this academic year, so far.
First-year Bowen led the Saxons in their win over SUNY Cobleskill, scoring 23 of their 61 points on Saturday. He also finished second on the team with six rebounds while tacking on one assist. Bowen was 10-of-12 from the floor and added 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Saturday’s game was Bowen’s fourth game this season with double-digit scoring and is his new career-high since becoming a collegiate student-athlete.
Bowen was also named one of the Saxons of the Week along with women’s basketball’s Lyndsey McCoy on Monday. Bowen and the Saxons will next enjoy their winter break before returning to the court for their last non-conference matchup of the regular season as they host The College at Brockport on Friday, Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
