Slip on down to the Holiday Valley Mudslide this weekend

By Kellen M. Quigley

It’s time to break out the running clothes and sneakers you don’t mind getting muddy, because it’s going to be a slip-sliding good time at Holiday Valley this weekend

Holiday Valley Resort will host its eighth annual Mudslide Obstacle Trail Run on Saturday, June 15, and there’s a lot of fun in store for anyone looking to get a little muddy for a good cause.

This off-road run takes place on the Holiday Valley ski trails, where up to 1,200 runners must navigate 14 obstacles along the muddy 3.5- or 5.4-mile courses. But don’t worry — there’s no fire, no barbed wire and no electric shocks, just plenty of laughs!

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Jim Kelly’s Hunter’s Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to giving hope through education and awareness, research and family care for Krabbe, Leukodystrophies and newborn screening.

Race packet pickup is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Yodeler Lodge. The event will start at 10 a.m. at Spruce Lake at the top of Holiday Valley’s mountain. A ride to the start on the Spruce Lake chairlift is included in the entry fee. Spectators may ride up the lift for $10.

A new layout for the long course has 19 obstacles, and new this summer is the snowpile on Firecracker. Yes, that’s right, there’s still a snowpile on the ski slopes in June! The final challenge for both courses is a giant mud slide down lower Yodeler.

All participants receive a medal, which will be awarded at the finish line. Prizes will also be awarded to the overall three fastest males and females. Chip Timing and mat starts and finishes will be in place.

Tunes, games and plenty of liquid refreshments will be at the post race party on the Champagne Sundeck, just outside the Yodeler Lodge. Starting at 11 a.m., competitors will receive a free hot dog or vegetarian option and two beverages. Friends and family are welcome to purchase food and beverages and join in the fun. DJ Tyler Burns will keep the party goin’ on. Bring your people-friendly dogs, frisbees, hula hoops and smiles.

Online registration is at www.holidayvalley.com/mudslide for $65 for the 3.5- or the 5.4-mile run and $10 for the kids’ run up to age 12. Day-of-race registration is from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Yodeler Lodge.

If you’re in the mood for some friendly competition, a chairlift ride, some snowmakers, a bunch of fun obstacles, lots of laughs and even more mud, stop by Holiday Valley this weekend and help support a great cause!
