Kill Buck Community Picnic still on target for Aug. 4

By Eli Phillips

The Kill Buck Community Picnic Committee is holding the next annual event on Aug. 4, starting at noon and running until 4 p.m. at the Kill Buck Pavilion.

Hosted by the Town of Great Valley, the picnic will include food, games and more — everything you’d need to celebrate the community and the warm summer weather.

The picnic last year, revived as part of Great Valley’s bicentennial celebration, was organized in an effort to reopen the pavilion to the public. This was a successful effort, as since then the space has been rented numerous times for a range of events.

This year’s picnic will once again feature a 50/50 raffle, which last year netted the winner a prize purse of over $1,500. Also returning will be the Chinese auction basket raffle, featuring goods and items donated from local businesses.

This year’s picnic will also feature musical performances and a contest hosted by Sally Marsh, as well as demonstrations by the Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Company.

Truly a day of fun for the whole family, a waterslide, bounce house and hula hoop contest will also be included in this year’s event.

The second annual Kill Buck Community Picnic is an alcohol free event.

After setting out and achieving their goal last year, the committee have decided on another goal for this year’s event: raise the funds necessary to refurbish and maintain the ballpark adjacent to the pavilion itself.

“That ballpark is as much a part of this community as the pavilion is,” committee chairperson Robert Patterson expressed, “so I think they will appreciate seeing that field restored. It’s where we played as kids. It would be nice to pass it along to this generation.”
