League-best Portville sweeps Eagles

Tori Unverdorben and Shayla Wilhelm each had nine kills as the Portville volleyball remained unbeaten on Tuesday, Oct. 9 with a 25-9, 25-7, 25-13 sweep of Ellicottville. 

Hailey Keim added six kills while Kylie Blessing racked up 26 assists and Olivia Emley notched 16 digs for the Panthers (10-0). 

Allison Rowland had three kills while Jenna Hadley logged five digs for Ellicottville (4-9). 

Springville 3, Ellicottville 2

Springville/West Valley rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win Oct. 8 in a volleyball match against Ellicottville in five. 

Heli Kongats racked up 14 kills, 11 digs and three blocks and Allison Rowland had six kills and 22 digs as Ellicottville fell, 25-27, 25-17, 17-25, 25-14, 25-21.

Jenna Hadley added five kills and 13 digs while Sammi Van Wicklin chipped in eight digs for the Eagles. 

“When we communicate and work as a team, we’re successful,” Ellicottville coach Katie Auge said. “That wasn’t the case in the final two sets.”

After four tough sets, the Allegany-Limestone girls volleyball team got past Ellicottville for a 25-21, 25-19, 26-28, 26-16 victory on Thursday, Oct. 3 in CCAA East play.

Maura Vossler led the way for A-L with 12 kills, one ace, two blocks and three digs. Emma McCarthy added seven kills and three aces. Also for the Gators, Cameron Riordan had 33 assists and seven aces.

For Ellicottville, Cyrene Moore had 10 kills and eight blocks; Heli Kongats added four kills, nine digs and two aces; and Jenna Hadley had 11 assists and six digs.
